This morning I was sitting on the couch attempting to start my day the way I usually do; quietly praying, allowing God to speak truth and love into my soul. As I was sitting there, I noticed the sun coming up over the edge of the field and it struck me that I wasn’t surprised to see this happening. God has been keeping the earth spinning at just the right speed ever since creation and people all over the globe have come to expect this to continue happening. Our God is faithful! Our God is dependable! He continues to show up day after day and we never need to wonder whether he will be there for us in our time of trouble, fear, anxiety, sickness, or whatever else you may have going on right now. Take a moment to thank Him for this.
Later in the day, I was on my way home from Warrenton with Emily and the twins, when all at once a bald eagle popped up out of the ditch beside the road. I was surprised by this and decided to go back and see if we could get another look at this majestic bird. As we neared the area, we saw it in the ditch again and as we watched, it flew up and sat in a nearby tree with its brilliant white head and tail on full display. Eagle sightings are always a reminder to me of the majesty of God. It is also a reminder that I must live my life courageously following the call that God has placed on my life. Each of us has a calling on our life and God is honored when we courageously pursue and live out that calling.
And finally, as I sit here at my desk, I am reminded that this is orphan awareness month. ☹ It breaks my heart to think that there are so many children all over the world who do not get to experience the joy and security of daddy coming home from work, of mommy tucking them into bed, knowing that she will be there in the morning when they wake up.
I couldn’t help but ask myself how a faithful, dependable, and majestic God would allow this problem. I asked myself the question, God, why don’t you do something? This reminded me of the song by Matthew West that asks this same question. The song says that God did do something, He created you! He created me! What can you do today? what can you do this month? Let’s not sit and wring our hands worrying about the terrible state of affairs in our world. Let’s find something we can do to make a difference.
Blessings to each of you as you seek to honor our King Jesus this week.
