Away in a manger

In those days, Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. Luke 2:1-3
As I reflect on the power of this Roman Empire, I’m reminded of the vastness of its reach and influence. And yet, it was within this context that God chose to birth his great plan of salvation for humanity. This would seem like a poor choice when viewed in the light of the potential opposition to this plan.
Christianity would get its start in a lowly manger in an insignificant corner of the most powerful empire in the world. But in spite of the odds stacked against it, God’s plan took shape and grew until today it is still the only way men and women can find forgiveness for their sins, and healing for the broken relationship between God and man.
As we celebrate the birth of our Savior this year, may we be reminded that just like God’s plan of salvation overcame the huge obstacles in its path, God’s plans for you and I can also survive the obstacles we face from day to day. And not only can his plan survive, but I pray that you find yourself thriving as you walk faithfully along the path he has laid out for you.
God bless you and Merry Christmas,
Phil
